Many people think religion is something we automatically inherit from our parents. In Thimphu I have heard it said “I was born in a Buddhist family, so I am a Buddhist. If God wanted me to be a Christian, I would be born in a Christian family and have a Christian name”.
If everyone is wrong, who is right?
But according to the Bible, this is not how we get to know God. God has given everyone, regardless of ethnic and family background, the ability to search, seek, and find him. And he promises that everyone who genuinely seeks to find their creator will surely find him.
You do not become Christian by being born into a Christian family. You do not become Christian because your parents or grandparents were Christians. You are not a Christian just because you have a English or a Christian name.
A Christian is someone who follows Christ Jesus. They have been born again into a spiritual relationship with Jesus. A Christian is someone who knows that he is a sinner, and he cannot save himself. He knows that his sin is washed away, forgiven, through Jesus death and resurrection.
