Why a threefold path?
Jesus came to the earth announcing, “the Kingdom of God is near, repent and believe the good news?” The actions repent, believe and love – are a summary of Jesus’ teaching. They show us how to experience the harmony of his Kingdom, both today and forever.
“The Kingdom of God is near, repent and believe the good news.”
Mark 1:15
Why is it a global path?
Sin is not just about individuals – sin is rebellion against the God who created all things. The good news is that God still loves humanity. He made a way for sin to be forgiven – washed away forever. Jesus is the Way. He died on a cross, in our place, for our sins. He proved it by raising Jesus back to life three days later. You can read more in the Five Global Truths.
1. Repent
Jesus often called, “But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” Luke 13:5
Sin, suffering and death – all started when people turned against God. They broke harmony when they decided for themselves what is right and wrong. Jesus warns, that those who continue sinning will be set aside and punished. God is just, he will not let sinning continue. God gives us the choice; repent and be forgiven, or be rightly punished.
To repent, is to redirect our hearts and lives toward God. It means loving and serving him, just as he loves us. It means turning away from every action that is against his will, and trying to please him in all we do.
Repentance is putting the God who made us, back in the centre.
2. Believe
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We cannot save ourselves from sin and punishment. Only God can. He is full of compassion and overflowing in grace. He has made the way.
Believe that God has sent his Son Jesus into the world. Accept that Jesus died on a cross, in our place, for our sins. He took the punishment that we deserve, but God raised him back to life on the third day.
How great is God’s love, that he would pay the price of sin for us! He has done what we could never do. We only need to believe!
3. Love
Loves God – Love People
Jesus said “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Laws hang on these two commandments.” (Jesus in Matthew 22:37)
The Christian life is about relationship. Once we redirect our hearts to God, we want to love God and love people. If someone loves from the heart, they do not need many rules. All other laws – speak truth, live honestly, be faithful to your spouse, help the needy – all these are summed up by LOVE.
“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.“ 1 John 4:10
When we repent and believe the good news, God gives us his own Spirit. He comes to live in us, to teach us, lead us. God gives us power to love. The Bible says,
“God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Rom 5:4-6
Repent and believe the Good News. Be transformed by God’s love today.
